Although it goes against popular wisdom, which says that the ships in New Eden are ammo, and that I understand that a high level character can use many ships efficiently, I think that each pilot is a ship target and not the other way around.

In real world systems, there are graphic designers, network experts, programmers, DBAs, technical support, server experts, etc.

In the real world, you hire what you need. Not a generalist. You should also pay a programmer differently than a technical support person.

When I had my first formal job in systems back in the 90s, my boss at one point had two protégés, maybe I was the third. I arrived before the other two, and about three months later, maybe five, he hired two good-for-nothings, a man and a woman, who later defrauded almost everyone in the office with computers in a batch/subscription sale. He was good with posters but bad for everyone else, like me he had perfect scores on the computer generalist exam that got us both there, but he stayed somewhere else first because of the posters. When that was over, my boss brought him. This guy was a typical joker with the body of Mowgli  from the Jungle Book (nicknamed after him)and from the first day I met him, months before he started working with me, he told me about the serious problems he had with ulcers due to his alcoholism.

Already working he did several stupid things, and they allowed him to continue working. For example, planting gay sex files on an accountant’s computer and pranking him about it, the aforementioned fraud in subscription sales, and in his case there were other things like deleting a file in the credit area of a branch by mistake, in The one that the branch had worked for almost a year (and that I had nothing to do with or there would have been backups) and finally he was prohibited from entering several branches if he went alone. He also crashed a late model car, a Pontiac Sunfire while leaving the agency. It was for someone else and he insisted on taking it out.

In the corporate offices they could not see him for the mentioned fraud. In the end they sent him to a People Soft ERP training program in other city, that lasted almost 18 months, they pay house, food, home alone with other guy where he took his wife (house for three then), and his normal salary plus something for expenses The 18 months of salary and expenses, and although the three of us were project leaders, he never managed any project, he didn’t program (no one ever saw him program) and when he returned from training he didn’t know how NOTHING to do it. He dont learn nothing useful of the training. Nothing really. 18 months lost. Why they didn’t fire him was a mystery.

The biggest problem we had was when he started making gay jokes at my expense, and our boss didn’t want to do anything. In addition to being heterosexual, my physique has been more like a security guard, and the matter ended in that since my boss did not want to get into his comments or stop him, at a meal outside the company I had to stop him.

I pulled him by the tie to talk outside the restaurant and he went banging against the chairs and tables all the way to the door. I didn’t have to hit him with my hands or feet, but he left me alone. We were both about 24 years old and earned the same.

The girl was a similar case. The boss’s schoolmate, she was unable to make an inventory of computers in excel. I handed her the one I had made and when months later it was evident that she had a mess, they preferred to stop bothering her with the inventory. According to some rumors she was the boss’s lover / schoolmate, which I don’t believe for other reasons. But in the end they authorized her SQL server licenses for a stupid project while I was using clipper 5.2e because they didn’t authorize me the licenses. Another thing she did was enter a COMDEX with the tickets purchased from the company, leaving the others out (I had to buy mine from the outside because I had to go in to speak with an exhibitor), and she was also an accomplice in the fraud of the sale of computers in installments. And just like the other, they couldn’t see her. Her functions were rather administrative, and the last I heard from her was that she worked in Human Resources in a much smaller company about ten years ago and that she offered herself as a life coach.

You get what you reward.

Not that they were good at all kinds of jack all of trades, just those two were parasites in every way.

I had more than 30 programs running and I left because of the toxic environment, they paid me full settlement. As Project Leader I modified and improved five existing systems and when I left I had more than 20 working. It fell to me to fix the case of the fraud computers, and although I spent almost the last three years of that work in branches as an envoy of the corporation, I was a corporate problem solver, an Eve hauler, an industrialist, a programmer. I  had to go to stupid corporate boards and meetings that the other two with the same rank did not go because they dont matter. And it’s not just that I delivered the product and people appreciated me, it was obvious what my role was.

Once that boss told me that the three of us should learn from each other, and that we be generalists. I replied that he was very generous and saw the good in people, but that I couldn’t do the same kind of things as them and that I couldn’t learn anything from them, which is true. In the end, although my boss embellished himself a lot with my achievements, he was afraid that I would take his position (when his path to promotion had a simple but fatal failure) and given better opportunities, I better leave. And that I am not commenting on other toxic personnel cases there. Literal jail material. But all the achievements in that area came from me or a later guy who fixed computers, but despite being a large corporation for my country, it was a dysfunctional environment.

So following that logic, as an expert in networks, servers and some development, I have something against generalists. In eve it is summed up in that the ship you use speaks a lot about what your character is. And with the prices of alpha and omega it is better to focus on what you are going to use. At the moment my goal with Taska is to be a hauler because I am collecting things that my main had in all regions. I use wreathe and if I activate the account it will be occator.

At the moment producing ships is not profitable for other things, and would be occator anyway.
